I-League Sponsorship Issue Not Our Headache: AIFF

The 4th Edition of the I-League, slated to kick off in the third week of November hasn’t find a sponsor yet. But AIFF President Parful Patel is not at all concern.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the Santosh Trophy final match he said it's the duty of their media partner Zee Sports to find sponsors. "It's not our headache. They (Zee Sports) are looking into the matter. Zee will decide on the new sponsors,"

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) which sponsored the League last season are yet to renew their sponsorship for this season. With their own club also qualifying for the I-League this season, it’s uncertain whether they would like to sponsor the whole event or just concentrate with their team.

Meanwhile BCCI has decided to arrest the 2nd installment grant of Rs 12.5 Crores to AIFF, after the Board members felt that the AIFF has not shared enough information about how the first installment (Rs12.5 crore) of Rs25 crore was spent by the country’s football governing body. The decision to stop the payment was taken at BCCI working committee meeting and the matter has now been referred to the general body of the BCCI. The final decision on the payment will be taken during the Board’s AGM in September-end

This decision came in the wake of BCCI’s refusal to give the Common Wealth Games Organizing Committee Rs 100 Crores.
