Can Liverpool Stop Tottenham’s Golden Run..?

Let’s have a look…

After a stunning 3-0 win over West Ham last weekend, Liverpool will be back in action to resume their Premier League campaign on Sunday, when they travel to White Hart Lane to take on Tottenham Hotspur.

With just 19 points on the card, the reds will like to build on their 3-0 win last week by snatching another 3 points against their London opposition which will push them higher up in the League table.

However, fresh from their progress into the knock out phase of the Champions League after thrashing Werder Bremen 3-0 last Wednesday, The Spurs too will be determined to carry on their good show against Roy Hodgson’s side specially after winning their last Premiership match against arch rival Arsenal 3-2, when they travelled to the latter’s home last Saturday.

With the win against Bremen, The Spurs at present topped Group A in the Champions League with 10 points, ahead of Inter Milan by a better Goal difference and are placed at No. 6 in the Premier League Table, 3 points ahead of Liverpool who are placed at No. 9. So they have their confidence sky high.

So the clash at White Hart Lane this Sunday will see Liverpool in search of only their second Barclays Premier League away win of the season and battle for 3 points to equalized Tottenham at 22 points while Harry Redknapp’s side will look to leave behind their rival with a 6 point margin. So far the only Premier League victory for Liverpool on opposition turf has come at Bolton.

Last season Liverpool went there in frenzy state with Alonso having been sold by the board after their pre-season had finished and lost 2-1 but had a perfectly sound second penalty not given which would have earned them a draw. They didn't deserve a draw on the balance of the game, but they should have got it. Steven Gerrard scored Liverpool's goal from the penalty spot.

However, Liverpool is also having a good run with just one loss in eight matches but going to Hart Lane is always a challenge for every team in the world. If they can repeat their performance against West Ham, then the home team will also have to battle hard especially after their vulnerable nature was exposed early on by Arsenal in their last Premier League game, though they eventually manage a comeback.

For the Reds, Fernando Torres and David Ngog have to fire to cause The Spurs all kinds of trouble. The Spurs are little week in their defense and the best ploy for Hodgson’s boys will be to attack and make them worry about their defense rather than Spurs creating problem for the Reds.

Captain Steven Gerrard will not be available for the weekend clash as he is still nursing his hamstring tears, while Joe Cole, out from the game since October 31 with similar problem is hopeful of a return against The Spurs.

It now remains to be seen whether Tottenham Hotspur can make a hat-trick of their Premier League wins or Liverpool sheds their underdog tags and come out with a brilliant win to climb up the League Table.
