Five Asian Countries to Compete in 2012 Futsal World Cup in Thailand
Five Asian Countries shall qualify to participate in the FIFA Futsal World Cup 2012 in Thailand. The decision to involve five Asian Countries for the 2012 Futsal World Cup came in a FIFA Executive Committee meeting in October 2010, which decided to increase the number of participating nation from twenty to twenty four.
According to the AFC Official Website, The confederation has sent a letter to its entire member association that five teams including the host Thailand shall be able to represent the Continent in the FIFA Futsal World Cup 2012 in Thailand.
If Thailand finishes within the top four, the next team will automatically qualify for the mega indoor football event.
The 7th edition of the tournament, will be held in Asia for the second time after Chinese Taipei hosted in 2004, so far has seen only two nations winning the tournament. Record Five times FIFA World Cup Champions Brazil holds a record four time win even in this format of the game. Spain being only the other nation who has won the tournament twice. No other nation has been able to lift the cup till date.
The tournament in Thailand will be played over four indoor stadiums with a maximum capacity of 15000 spectators between fall and winter 2012.
