Prime Minister and Vice President Not to Attend the 34th National Games Opening Ceremony

The 34th National Games in Jharkhand starting Saturday suffered another jolt when Vice President Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh conveyed their inability to attend the Opening ceremony. Jharkhand Governor M.O.H.Farook is now likely to inaugurate the Games.

Earlier, President Patil, who was personally invited by CM Arjun Munda also conveyed her inability to grace the occasion due to prior commitments. Sports Minister Ajay Maken will be present for the opening ceremony. The tainted Commonwealth Games Organising Committee Chairman, Suresh Kalmadi, who already is in Jharkand will be present in his capacity as the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) chief.

If reports are to be believed, Union Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Ajay Maken has asked the organisers to make his sitting arrangements far away from IOA president Suresh Kalmadi, who was sacked as the chairman of the CWG OC by the ministry on charges of corruption.

The buzz in the government is that, even PM Manmohan Singh prefers to stay out of the opening ceremony due to the presence of “Suresh Corrupted Kalmadi”. However the Jharkhand Government is still making an effort to ensure the presence of the Prime Minister for the February 26, closing ceremony.

The opening ceremony also will not see either Priyanka Chopra or Kareena Kapoor performing. Insteed it will be the hot and sizzling Amisha Patel and Sameera Reddy who will lure the audience. Star singer Sukwinder Singh will entice the audience with his scintillating voice while Big Boss winner Sweta Tiwari will anchor the event.
