Desmond Bulpin to Coach AIFF-XI

Desmond Bulpin, the man who Indian National Football Coach, Bob Houghton hype about is all set to take care of India Under 19 team. It took a while for Bulpin and AIFF to reach to an agreement both on financial and contractual terms.

India Under-19 renamed as AIFF-XI will be participating in the I-League this season in place of the disband Mahindra United. The idea behind AIFF creating AIFF XI is to ensure that the youngsters, who are the future of the country, stay together and possibly fight together for qualifying the 2018 WC. Moreover this decision of the AIFF to train the young team under Bulpin is a good move citing Bulpin experience in overseeing youth’s development.

59-year-old Bulpin has more than 25 years of coaching experience at the top level. A former coach at Queens Park Rangers and Tottenham Hotspur, Bulpin was in charge of the Philippines national team before his move to India. He also had a stint with top Singapore side Tampine Rovers. He oversaw the development of International footballers like Jermaine Defoe and Peter Crouch while with the Tottenham youth team. Moreover Houghton and Bulpin had worked together in Uzbekistan for some time.

Expectation from the English man is sky high looking at his bio-data. It remains to be seen where he takes the Indian Youths. Can he create another Jermaine Defoe or Peter Crouch from India? Indian football presently lies in the hand of two Englishman.
